Initiated by the shadows she observed in the earth, the artist spent many weeks perfecting the technique used that allows objects to be represented in two dimensions on canvas. The object becomes a representation that is its own and the canvas carries the painterly interpretation of the object, especially when it's a live object or perishable for example, fruit or humans. Alexa Meade's works are fleeting and the image remains. Trompe l'oeil is achieved through the combination of two methods of painting and photographing. This creates a flattened, two dimensional picture. Meade often incorporates models painted within the surrounding space. This allows them to be part of the world she has created. It eliminates any distinction between painting, photography and installation.
